KELSO'S CHOICES
At Brookwood, we utilize this program to motivate students to become effective problem solvers. We recognize that not every problem can be solved by the students and may need some adult assistance. This cute little frog encourages students to utilize two strategies to help them make a positive choice when faced with a problem or conflict. Kelso should only be utilized when a “small” problem occurs. “Small” problems are defined as ones that are not dangerous or frightening; these are minor problems that can usually be solved using Kelso’s wheel. Students are asked to utilize two choices before getting assistance from an adult. Some problems require immediate assistance from an adult; these are considered “big” problems. “Big” problems are situations that are dangerous to yourself or others. We encourage our staff and parents to utilize this program at school and at home.
