Individual Counseling:
Individual counseling takes place on an 'as needed" basis and available for all students. At any time a student or teacher may complete a referral sheet located right outside the counselors door. Parents may call or speak with a counselor about any concerns they have about their child. All counseling sessions are confidential and are not documented in the students cumulative record. As school counselors, we are not trained to provide therapy. We would be more than happy to recommend outside counseling at the families expense, if necessary.
Group Counseling:
Group counseling allows a group of students to work together on the same issue/goals. Students form positive relationships in these groups. Group counseling allows the school counselor to provide assistance to more of our population. Students are selected to participate in these groups by teacher, parent or self referral. These groups are held during your students lunch time. Most groups meet once a week for six weeks. Parent permission MUST be obtained before any student participates. At the beginning of the year, a short small group interest inventory will be sent home with students in grades 1-5. Please complete if you are interested in your child participating in any of the groups offered. Please keep in mind that this is a request.
